How many times have you been in the middle of something only to have to stop and let your pet out or in?  Dog doors eliminate this disruption. It can be seriously annoying.  You let your pooch out, they want in.  You let them in, they want out.  You could easily go crazy trying to anticipate your dog’s needs.  By installing a dog door, you remove yourself from the cycle.

Training a dog that is completely unfamiliar with a dog door will take a bit of effort.  After installing the door let your pet get comfortable with it by taking him near the door and showing him how it works.   After your dog is no longer startled by the noises your door makes you can encourage him to try it out, if necessary, by gently pushing him out of the door a few times.  Encourage your pet to come back in using rewards.  Once your dog gets the hang of the door you are free.  No more waking up in the middle of the night to let your dog out.  No more standing by the door in freezing weather hoping they will come back in promptly; your dog has the freedom to go in and out whenever he wants to. You can also be worry free when you have your invisible fence.

Dog doors come in a variety of styles.  If security is a concern in your neighborhood consider investing in a door that can be locked from the inside.  Perhaps one of the neatest innovations in dog doors is the electronic door.  Your pet wears a small transmitter on their collar and the door only opens when the receiver in the door detects the correct signal.  Do you think they make those things for kids?
